According to a few different reports, the most commonly purchased mattress size in the U.S. appears to be the queen. A queen size may be the perfect fit for an individual who needs more space to stretch out comfortably (and has the bedroom space to accommodate it), or a couple who wants to minimize the amount of space their mattress takes up.
